Beginners Guide To Real Knife Sharpening
Curb your dull knives. Please. But also, if you don’t want to sharpen your knife, that’s okay too. I’m just giving you the option and ability to take your knife from dull to sharper than a razor using a whetstone. 😉 Also *DISCLAIMER*: This technique is something that I learned as a beginner while working in restaurants. It was really only intended to get newbies started on the idea of using a whetstone. This video is NOT intended to be a professional all inclusive knife video. It’s simply supposed to be a fun/entertaining video to get people interested in learning about knife sharpening. I suggest doing your own research and finding your own way to sharpen a knife after getting started off this guide!

A question here… after sharpening my knife, how should I keep the stone, in water all the time or dry??
I doubt that is a 1000/6000 whetstone. I've found that those numbers are more marketing than truth.
You had mentioned that to add pressure when you are dragging back. So for the first part, pressure is added on the back stroke – which looks like you are adding pressure when knife is being drawn to the back of the knife. When you flip the knife over, do I add pressure to the forward push – towards the back of the blade? Or is pressure added on the back stroke, towards the knife/sharp side?
You're starting off trying to educate people on knife sharpening, but your wrong. A 1000 grit stone is way to fine a grit to start off with. You actually want people to spend a half an hour to start sharpening? Start off with a stone around 400 to 600 grit, raise a burr, then go up to a 1000 grit stone.
my knife is as blunt as a price of wood 😡
I recently got a whetstone, and was testing this technique out on one of my lets say cheaper knives.
HOLY FUCK. This thing is now sharper than my also new super fancy japanese pattern knife. This works super well, i have never cut a tomato and not realized there was a tomato before

My friend was a butcher for years and he sharpens all my knives with honing rods and they come out that sharp
1:08 This. I got into high quality kitchen cutlery when I wanted to stop paying $8-$10 for California Sushi rolls and decided to make them myself. So I got a VG10 Gyuto and some stones. Then I put my $20 Faberware chef knife from Target on my stones and while it's edge will never match the VG10 steel it's MUCH sharper that when it was when new. I still use that cheap chef alongside my nicer knives.
Excellent thanks, ordering now
Thanks for making me believe I can do this. Just ordered the stone. King 1000/6000. Wish me luck!
🤔Never heard “demonetize” before. Never saw CYE, don’t like that one guy. But, I did see The Exorcism and that sounded like demony Exorcist music. Came for the knife sharpening, got a bonus research assignment. Yay
what knife is that!?
These stones you recommend, many of them are found to be extremely RADIOACTIVE. People, look at the reviews of this before buying. Unless you have a geiger counter you won't know if you got a bad batch or not.
What do you think about electric knife sharpeners with spinning stone? Can I get the same result?
Very helpful, thank you. By the way, I am interested in your background music, would you mind sharing the group or musician? Thanks again.
Ugh! There's so little chance of injury from using a dull knife. My hands would be stumps by now if that was the actual case. Meanwhile, I'm all about how to sharpen knives with a whetstone.
Thank you my bro it worked hahaha! Enrolling for master chef now! Lol
Uses a Ken onion worksharp sharpener like a boss
I have many knives and a small stone I use to occasionally keep them from dulling to uselessness, decided I wanted to make one as sharp as I could one day and so I spent some time one it and it stopped improving once I got to a certain point, I never learned how to sharpen them, mostly just used intuition and some vague understanding of physics so I figured I was not using the best technique, it could cut paper but it was a hit or miss and eventually tore it, I looked it up found this video and sharpened while listening, by the end it easily passes the paper cut test. Neat.
I didn't realize Heath Ledger went into knife sharpening

Then there's me starting with a 240grit stone and finishing with a 1000grit. Granted it's a camp knife so the blade gets used to process firewood and such lol
Hello,
I was about to buy some of these stones but in the reviews I saw a few comments mentionning that they're radioactive (10x background).
Maybe check that out and update your video ?
Cheers
Great video! No pressure going Forward, most don't mention this.
